Impact Rankings 2020: industry, innovation, and infrastructure
The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings are the only global performance tables that assess universities against the United Nations¡¯ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We use carefully calibrated indicators to provide comprehensive and balanced comparisons across three broad areas: research, outreach and stewardship.
This table on SDG 9 ¨C industry, innovation and infrastructure measures universities¡¯ research on industry and innovation, their number of patents and spin-off companies and their research income from industry.
The list includes 494 universities from 71 countries.

The list is led by Japan¡¯s University of Tokyo and Canada¡¯s University of Toronto in joint first place. The Netherlands¡¯ Delft University of Technology and South Korea¡¯s Yonsei University (Seoul campus) share third place.
Japan is the most-represented nation in the table with 50 institutions, followed by Russia with 34 and Turkey with 33.
